Our next meeting is Tuesday 12 January 2016 at 7:00pm, at a new venue (TBD). For this January meeting, we shall be reading Hendrik W. Dey, The Afterlife of the Roman City: Architecture and Ceremony in Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages (New York, 2015). Scanned selections from the book will be sent soon.
Our next WARBLS meeting will be next week on Tuesday, 17 November at 7:00pm, at a new venue, “Elephant and Castle,” at 900 – 19th St. NW, 20006 (Google Maps), conveniently situated between Farragut North (red line) and Farragut West (orange/silver/blue line) metro stations. From Farragut North, take the exit onto K St., then walk two blocks west and turn left onto 19th St. Elephant and Castle is on the right side of 19th St. + I (Eye) St. From Farragut West, take the 19th St. exit and walk west one block. Elephant and Castle is on your right at the intersection of 19th and I (Eye) St. To park near Elephant and Castle, you may wish to arrive early and take advantage of street parking (e.g., 17th St.), which opens at 6:30pm. NB: make sure you go to the Elephant and Castle on 900 – 19th St. This is a trial of a new venue, so please send Dr. Barry or me any suggestions or feedback you have about it.
For this November meeting, we shall be reading Julia Hillner, Prison, Punishment, and Penance in Late Antiquity (Cambridge, UK, 2015).
