Register Now: The Materiality of Relics in the First Millennium: April 13 @ UMD

The First Millennium Network is pleased to announce our Spring conference: “The Materiality of Relics in the First Millennium.”

This event will be held at the University of Maryland, College Park, Francis Scott Key (FSK), Room 0106, on Friday, April 13, 2018, from 9:30-5:30.

The speakers for this event are as follows:

Roland Betancourt (UC Irvine), “Icon, Relic, Eucharist: Negotiating the Division of Sacred Matter in Byzantium”

Jonathan Brockopp (Penn State), “Early Arabic Manuscripts as Relics and as Reliquaries”

Nicola Denzey Lewis (Claremont Graduate University) “Saint Peter’s Bones: Relics and Papal Power in Late Antique Rome”

Valerie Garver (Northern Illinois University), “Witnesses to the Miraculous: Textiles as and for Relics in the Carolingian World”

We ask that all those who attend, whether for the whole day or only part, please register HERE.

Please register no later than Monday, April 9.
